On 29 Aug August 2019, the Hon'ble Prime Minister launched the nationwide "Fit India Movement", which aims to encourage people to engage in physical activity and sports in their daily lives and routines.

School is the first place where habits form. School children should be encouraged to engage in active field time during school hours involving fitness and sports activities. This will give students an understanding for regular physical activity and a high level of fitness, thus boosting their self-esteem and confidence. With these objectives in mind, the Fit India School Week program was launched in 2019.

This year, "Fit India School Week" will be celebrated virtually by schools in December.


Schools to ensure that all students, parents, staff and management will actively participate in the Fit India School Week 2020 program

Schools can create a new page on their website titled "Fit India School Week 2020" and upload briefly about the activities carried out on it and related pictures / videos.

Schools should register themselves at and upload photo and video link related to the event

All registered schools can download the digital certificate which can be downloaded from the Fit India portal following the successful conduct of Fit India School Week.

Schools are also encouraged to share / post activities with #NewIndiaFitIndia and tag @FitIndiaOff on their social media channels.


Virtual activities for Fit India School Week Celebration 2020

Day activity

01 (i) Virtual Assembly - Free Hand Exercise

(ii) Recreation and Fitness- Fit India Active Brake Capsules such as robics, dance forms, rope skipping, hopscotch, zig zag and shuttle running etc. can be used for demonstration purposes.

02 (i) Virtual Assembly - General Yoga Protocols

(ii) Debates, Symposiums, Lectures on “Reinforcing Post-Mental Epidemics” - Mental Health Activities for Students, Staff and Parents

(iii) An open letter to the young nation on "Power of Fitness"

(iv) Open the mic on topics such as "Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do, not a punishment for what you ate".

03 (i) Brain games to improve concentration / problem solving ability - e.g. Chess, Rubik's Cube etc.

(ii) Poster making competition on the theme “Hum Fit To Bharat Fit” or “New India Fit India”

(iii) We are preparing advertisements on "Hum Fit To Bharat Fit", "Emotional and physical well-being are intertwined" etc.

04 (i) Discussions, symposiums, lectures etc. on diet and nutrition during epidemic for students / staff and parents.

(ii) Essay / poetry writing competition on the theme "Fitness Illnesses"

(iii) on podcast / movie directed themes - "get fit, don't give up"; "Mental health is not a destination but a journey" etc.

05 (i) Fitness / Sports related. Online quiz

(ii) Simulated challenges for students, staff / teachers e.g.

  • Squats challenge
  • Step up challenge
  • Spot jogging
  • Left the rope
  • Ball dribbling etc.

(iii) Session by inspiring speakers for students, parents and school staff (s)

06 Dedicated to Family Fitness 1 day:

(i) Activities for home fitness sessions involving students and parents - Fit India Active Day Capsules may be used for demonstration purposes.

(ii) Constructive design of home appliances for sports and fitness. E.g.

Hockey bag at home (wake up with feet and hands - warm up activity)

A sock to play crock - ball and aluminum foil inside any piece of wood

Mosquito bat and TT ball to play badminton / tennis

Fitness Circuit - Draw a ladder to the floor with a piece of chalk or crayon
